Artists - Scotland and Venice Biennale

The three artistic practices selected to represent contemporary art from Scotland in the exhibition 'Selective Memory' are Alex Pollard, Joanne Tatham and Tom O'Sullivan , and Cathy Wilkes .

For this second representation of contemporary art from Scotland, 'Selective Memory', focuses on three practices based in Glasgow which reflect an interest in the pursuit and construction of meaning through studio-based and practice-led activities.

Collectively they express one perspective of the cultural ecology that has developed within contemporary art from Scotland. Alex Pollard, Joanne Tatham and Tom O'Sullivan and Cathy Wilkes have emerged and developed in tandem with the Scottish 'neo-conceptual' movement that is well documented in the UK and internationally.

Alex Pollard, Joanne Tatham and Tom O'Sullivan and Cathy Wilkes are reflective of current activity within Scotland and in particular reflect an interest in art-historical references beyond the fields of minimalism and conceptualism which were indicative to the development of contemporary art from Scotland throughout the eighties and nineties.
